Watercraft Rental Policy

Lakes End Marina prides itself on providing a safe and exciting boating adventure to visitors of Lake Nantahala. Because of the risk associated with a fun day on the lake, certain precautions must be made. Please understand the following company policies are in place to keep everyone safe and to help promote an enjoyable lake experience for everyone.

  

Reservation and Deposit Policies

  • Renter must be at least 21 years of age for motorized rentals and meet NC State Law regarding Vessel Operation (see Watercraft/Vessel Operation below).

  • Renter must be at least 23 years of age to operate a Personal Watercraft (Jet Ski/Waverunner) and meet NC State Law regarding Vessel Operation.

  • Renter must be at least 18 years of age for non-motorized rentals and/or have written consent from a parent/guardian if under the age of 18.

  • Rental duration and availability are outlined in your rental reservation.

  • A credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, etc.) is required to make a reservation.

  • A 50% deposit will be required at the time the reservation is made.

  • While cash payments are accepted in the Lakes End Store and Lakes End Café & Grill, the use of cashless payment methods (credit, debit, or Lakes End Gift card) is required for boat rentals.

  • All persons involved with our activities and rentals acknowledge that said activities are   potentially dangerous and agree to hold Lakes End Marina, all owners, employees, and affiliated properties harmless.

  • You are responsible for the time selected on the reservation. You are responsible for returning the watercraft at the end time of the selected rental, unless previous arrangements have been made with Lakes End Marina Staff prior to departure. Lakes End Marina cannot guarantee any additional time for late arrivals.

 

Gas/Fuel

  • Fuel is not included with in the rental pricing.

  • There will be a full tank of gas at the start of the rental. The equipment will be refueled by LEM staff and paid for at the end of the rental.

  • Only fuel purchased at LEM through the gas pump on the dock is allowed in LEM watercraft.

 

Pet Policy

  • Pets are permitted on specific watercraft. Be advised there is a $35 non-refundable pet fee per rental. Please disclose if a pet will be present on the watercraft at the time of booking or at check in.

 

Prior to Watercraft Departure

  • Unless prior arrangements were made, renters should arrive at Lakes End Marina at least 15 minutes prior to departure to complete paperwork and pre-departure instruction.

  • Renter must sign LEM Watercraft Rental Agreement and LEM Watercraft Rental Damage Waiver before leaving the dock.

  • LEM staff member will go over basic operations and safety information with renter at the boat before the start of the rental.

 

Watercraft Return Policies

  • All vessels must be returned at the scheduled return time. Any watercraft returned late will be assessed a late fee of $50 dollars per 15 minutes late. Other renters may be renting the watercraft behind you so please be courteous to other renters.

  • Late fee may be waived if prior arrangements are made and approved by LEM staff. In these cases, the customer will be charged at standard rates for additional time.

  • No Refunds, Discounts, or Vouchers will be issued for early returns.

  • Multi day rentals are to be returned by 5PM on the last day of the rental, unless other arrangements have been made and approved by the marina staff.

  • Rental should be returned in a broom clean condition, free of excess trash, mud, and debris or the renter is subject to a cleaning fee.

  • At time of return, LEM staff member and renter will inspect the boat for any damages. Renter is responsible for any damages and potential charges associated with the damages.

 

Watercraft/Vessel and Operation

  • Any person born after January 1st, 1988, must complete a NASBLA approved boating education course before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater in the State of North Carolina (N.C. §75A-16.2).

  • No persons may operate a Motorized boat under the age of 21, regardless of certification, per LEM Policy. No persons may operate a PWC (Jet Ski/Waverunner) under the age of 23, regardless of certification, per LEM Policy.

  • Passengers can be of any age on any vessel.

  • A valid driver’s license MUST be carried with the renter and/or operator on the watercraft (State Law) in addition to Boater Education Certification (if applicable).

  • Any child under the age of 13 must wear a USCG approved life jacket at all times.

  • All safety equipment (PFD’s, fire extinguisher, throw cushion, paddle and a noise making device) is provided at no charge with every rental.

  • Vessel operator(s) must be in compliance with NC State Law regarding Vessel Operation through the duration of the rental to include the use of drugs and alcohol.

  • Food and beverages, as well as coolers are permitted on rental watercraft. Please be courteous and remember to properly dispose of your trash and keep our waterways clean.

  • Grills are NOT permitted for use on any rental watercraft.

  • Every effort will be made to make sure non-essential equipment is working on your rental craft, but Lakes End Marina does not guarantee it. Non-essential equipment includes radios, depth finders, gas gauges, trim gauges, and any other equipment that is not essential to the basic operation of the craft.

  • Non-functioning non-essential equipment will not result in a reduction or discount of rental charges or replacement vessel. 

  • Lakes End Marina reserves the right to substitute rented watercraft in the event of craft break down with a comparable model based on availability.

  • Lakes End Marina reserves the right to cancel your reservation without refund for any violations of our policies. 

Rental Cancellation Protection:

  • Non-refundable cancellation protection can be purchased at the time the reservation is made.

  • Full-day or hourly rentals with cancellation protection can be cancelled or rescheduled 24-hours prior to the scheduled rental for full refund of rental deposit, minus the cost of the cancellation protection. Cancellations made after the 24-hour window, prior to the reservation, will result in the forfeit of the rental deposit.

  • Multiday rentals with cancellation protection can be cancelled or rescheduled 3-days prior to the scheduled rental for a full refund of rental deposit, minus the cost of the cancellation protection. Cancellations made after the 3-day/72-hour window, prior to the reservation, will result in the forfeit of the rental deposit.

 

Rescheduling Policy

  • While every effort will be made to reschedule your rental for an appropriate alternative date and/or time, we cannot guarantee the same rental availability.

  • Rescheduling rentals does not guarantee the same rental rates. Rescheduling a rental can reflect a change in the rate based on seasonal demand.
